Dhaka-6 MP Ishrak Hossain has expressed his commitment to building a developed and strong democratic Bangladesh by protecting the country's independence and sovereignty and ensuring people's voting rights in the spirit of National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

He said the mass uprising on August 5, 2024, reminded the nation of the historic Sepoy-People Revolution of November 7.

He also said they had seen a reflection of that history in the role played by the armed forces during the final phase of the anti-fascist movement.

Ishrak made the remarks at a discussion organised by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs at the Liberation War Museum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon, in the capital on Saturday (November 7), marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

The lawmaker said they had long been waiting for a revolution similar to that of November 7. The anti-fascist movement reached its culmination on August 5, 2024, he added.

He said his generation had been highlighting the need for another Sepoy-People Revolution in public statements since two to three years before the mass uprising.

Ishrak said all pro-Bangladesh forces eventually united and successfully launched a movement to steer the country towards its desired democratic goals.

Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's slogan, “Not Delhi, not Pindi, nor any other country — Bangladesh comes first,” he said people across the country could identify with the message.

On Bangladeshi nationalism, Ishrak said the political ideology and philosophy established by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman remained relevant to the younger generation even after 50 years.

He said both the present and future generations wanted to see the Bangladesh envisioned by Ziaur Rahman.

The MP said they would move forward embracing Bangladeshi nationalism and work under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to protect the country's independence and sovereignty, ensure voting rights and build a developed and strong state.

Expressing pride in their political identity, Ishrak said they were proud members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which he described as the country's largest pro-Bangladesh political party.

He also paid tribute to the country's freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters, and prayed for the eternal peace of the soul of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
