Shyama Puja and Diwali celebrated across Bangladesh

The Hindu community across the country is celebrating Shyama Puja and Diwali on Sunday (November 8), marking the festival of lights that symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

The religious festival takes place during the auspicious Kartika Amavasya (new moon night). Temples, altars, and Hindu households nationwide are witnessing worship rituals dedicated to Goddess Kali, alongside traditional illuminations for Diwali.

In Sakta tradition, Goddess Kali is revered as the mother of the universe and the destroyer of evil. Devotees perform rituals to seek deliverance from fear, adversity, and misfortune, praying for peace and well-being for their families and society.

The rituals of Shyama Puja, held during the midnight hours of Kartika Amavasya, include chanting of sacred mantras, pushpanjali (flower offerings), bhog offerings, and traditional aarti. Special prayers and devotional song performances are being held at various temples overnight.

Simultaneously, the festival of Diwali is being observed through the lighting of traditional earthen lamps (pradips), candles, and decorative lights across homes, temples, and worship venues.

Festivities, temple illuminations, prasadam distribution, and religious gatherings are underway in various parts of the country, including the Pirojpur and Dubalhati areas of Naogaon district. Community leaders have also issued calls for safe and eco-friendly celebrations by limiting noise and air pollution during the festivities.
