Police have recovered the body of a Jubo Dal leader from a hilly stream in Bandarban on Sunday morning (November 8).
The deceased was identified as Md Sharif, son of Jahir Ahmed from Meghla Talukdar Para under Ward 9 of Bandarban Municipality. He served as the joint convener of Ward 9 of the Bandarban Municipal Jubo Dal and worked as a mason by profession.
According to police and local sources, locals spotted the blood-stained body lying in the ‘Manur Jhiri’ stream in the municipality's Kosaipara area while heading to work in the morning and immediately informed the police. Officers subsequently retrieved the body and sent it to Bandarban Sadar Hospital.
Locals noted that Sharif had no apparent reason to traverse the jungle path towards the stream under normal circumstances, generating public curiosity surrounding the mysterious death.
Bandarban Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Masud Parvez confirmed the incident, stating that bleeding from the nose and ears suggests Sharif sustained severe head injuries.
He added that the exact cause of death will be determined following a thorough investigation.
