EDOTCO Bangladesh, the country’s leading digital infrastructure services provider, and FloSolar Solutions Ltd have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the development of grid-connected renewable energy capacity to meet EDOTCO’s power requirements across its telecom infrastructure.
The collaboration aims to increase the use of renewable electricity across EDOTCO’s operations, diversify its energy mix, advance the company’s decarbonisation journey and strengthen the long-term resilience of its digital infrastructure, says a press release.
Under the MoU, the two companies will assess opportunities to use renewable electricity generated by potential solar projects to support eligible EDOTCO operations through the national grid. FloSolar will lead the assessment of potential generation sites, grid connectivity and project development, while EDOTCO will help assess eligible sites and electricity requirements.
Al Batuni Mohammad Sayed Ahmed, country managing director of EDOTCO Bangladesh, said the partnership would advance the company's decarbonisation efforts while strengthening the resilience and sustainability of its digital infrastructure.
Mustafa Azim Kasem Khan, founder and managing director of FloSolar Solutions Limited, said the collaboration would combine the companies' capabilities to expand renewable energy use in critical connectivity infrastructure and support Bangladesh's sustainable energy transition.
Under the proposed model, FloSolar will develop and finance potential projects, allowing EDOTCO to procure renewable electricity without upfront investment in generation assets. The arrangement could also improve long-term energy cost visibility, subject to project feasibility and regulatory approval.
Preliminary estimates suggest that every 100 MWp of developed capacity could generate approximately 130 GWh of renewable electricity annually and avoid around 80,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, depending on the final project configuration, applicable grid emissions factors and the amount of grid electricity displaced.
