5000 metric ton stock in Rajshahi Sugar Mill

RAJSHAHI, June 11: The price of sugar was Tk 40 to Tk 45 per kg before the Ramadan while the price has been hiked at Tk 70 now-a-days.
Locals alleged the price is being continuously increased in the name of 'lack of enough supply.' Rajshahi Sugar Mill sources said that at least 5 thousand metric ton sugar is stocked in the mill but they were not sold to the dealers. In the month of Ramadan a total of 300 metric ton sugar was sold to the dealers which do not fulfill the market demands.
Shop owners alleged that, due to the lack of enough supply, some dishonest businessman are taking the opportunity and misusing it to make the price higher. There is nothing we can do against it.
A local dealer named Omar Ali said, "If sugar mills do not increase their supply the sugar price will increase. As a result, they won't be able to sell stocked sugars Tk 60 per kg anyhow like now."
Contacted Ashfaqur Rahman, Managing Director of Rajshahi Sugar Mill, said that they have 5 thousand and 165 metric ton of sugar stock now. 300 metric ton sugar has been supplied all over the market through 600 dealers. "We cannot allocate more sugar that 300 metric ton as per the direction of head office of Rajshahi Sugar Mill situated in Dilkusha of capital. For this reason we can't release sugar from the mill though markets has lots of demand", Ashfaqur Rahman also added.
