Frequent load shedding makes lives miserable in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Aug 10: The city people of Rajshahi and its adjacent areas including Rajshahi University (RU) campus have been suffering from an unbearable hazard of frequent load-shedding since last week without any rain or storm. Load-shedding occurs at least 8 to 12 times in everyday and night hampering the study of the students including the 38th BCS candidates.
The city did not have sufficient supply of power in the city this year. There is a demand of 80 Megawatt (MW) power in the city but the supply is only between 55 to 56 MW. As a result, the city people and RU students have been suffering unbearable heat since last week. It is hampering their study and sleep at night or day said concerned sources of Power Development Board, Rajshahi.
Talking to The Daily Observer, Abdur Razzak, a resident of Uposhohor area of the city, said that they have been suffering from unbearable heat weather due to frequent load-shedding. They are neglected from the benefit of electricity most of the time of the day or night.
His family members could not sleep well in last three nights.  It also hampers the studying of students and timely cooking of the daily food, he added.
Rakib Hasan of Uposhohor area of the city, said load-shedding has become a common problem in day or night. He could not sleep in deep night while load-shedding occlude. Load-shedding occurs more than 10 times in day and night. The concerned authority should take necessary measures to save the people from heat weather, he added.
Kamrul Islam, a Master's student of Anthropology Department of RU, said that he is a BCS candidate this year. But he cannot study well for frequent load-shedding. Even, he could not sleep while load-shedding occurs in deep night.
Not only Uttam but also other job aspirant students alleged that load-shedding and unbearable heat weather makes it difficult for us to study in day or night. The concern authority should take immediate measures to control this situation and save them from unbearable heat weather, students added.   
Abdul Rashid, the Executive Engineer of North-West Power Development Board said that there has not been sufficient supply of power in the city. The demand is around 80 MW power in the city whereas the supply is between 55 to 56MW.
For this reason, frequent load-shedding occurred in this zone.                         Necessary measures would be taken immediately to solve the power problem, the engineer added.
