Allegations about rape and torture of a girl in a rented house at Bagmara in Rajshahi district have been surfaced.
Police rescued the girl from the house located at Harifolar crossing in Taherpur municipal area on Wednesday night and detained a person.
Detained Raju Hossain, 25, is a tea-vendor. He is the son of Abdur Razzak Shah of Harifola Mahalla under Taherpur Pourasava.
Police said the ailing girl was shifted to one-stop crisis centre (OCC) of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after providing treatment at Bagmara Health Complex.
Locals said the girl hails from Faridpur district. She got acquainted with Raju over phone and fell in love. Assuring the girl of marrying, Raju brought the girl at Taherpur on March 24 last. Then he got into a rented flat. Confining the girl there, Raju allegedly raped the girl over the last one month intimidating and beating her.
Being tortured, the girl fell sick at one stage. Sensing the matter, the inhabitants of a neighbouring house informed the local councillor about the matter. As the councilor informed the police station concerned, police rescued the girl at about 10:30pm on Wednesday. Then police detained Raju from the same area. At night, the girl filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act bringing charges of abduction, rape and torture on Raju.
Rajshahi District Police's additional police super and spokesman Rafiqul Alam said heinous crime was committed against the girl. There are allegations that the detained Raju was also involved in many crimes. Police is investigating the matter.
