Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa, who were recently sacked from private Ekattor Television channel, have been shown arrested in a murder case.
They were shown arrested in the murder case filed at Uttara East Police Station in the capital.
Dhaka metropolitan police sources said on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier in the morning, Shakil Ahmed, his wife Farzana Rupa and their daughter were detained by the immigration authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. Later, they were handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
Shakil Ahmed was the head of news and Farzana Rupa was the principal correspondent of the channel. Both of them are husband and wife.
The airport sources said they went to the airport to go to France's capital Paris via Istanbul by a flight (TK-713) of Turkish Airlines in the morning. The couple's only daughter was also accompanying them.
The immigration police did not allow them to leave the country as no clearance was received from the City SB.
At that time, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police went to the airport and told the immigration that there was a case against Shakil and Farzana couple with a police station in the capital. Then the DB team detained them and took them away from the airport for questioning in the case.
It was learnt that both Shakil and Farzana were taken to the DB office at Minto Road in the capital.
Earlier on August 8, Ekattor Television authorities relieved both Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa from their jobs.
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina held a press conference following her China visit on July 14 last. Ekattor Television's Farzana Rupa made a question to Hasina. Her question was -- Humiliating statements are being delivered constantly addressing the freedom fighters during the anti-quota movement. Freedom fighters can't tolerate this humiliation. Has the state anything to do in this regard?
Following the question, Farzana Rupa came under widespread criticism of the students belonging to the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement. After Sheikh Hasina left the country resigning from her post on August 5 last, the Ekattor Television authorities sacked Farzana Rupa.
