Chirkutt’s Sumi to get Ananya Award this year

Sharmin Sultana Sumi, one of most established vocalists of this age has been vital to the band "Chirkutt" for long. She along with the band has won numerous accolades. Now Sumi has got another prestigious award in her bag. The Ananya award for established ladies will be conferred on her. Other recipients of this year's award are Professor Dr Sadeka Halim for educational contributions, Dr Nazmun Ara Khanam as administrative officer, Farzana Chowdhury for female entrepreneurship, Nabanita Chowdhury for journalism, Shapna Rani for playing key role in empowerment of village women, Nadira Khanam for advocating human rights particularly for the third gender, Mahfuza Akter Kiron as sports coordinator, Nazia Jabeen in social service and Mariya Manda for sports. Each year since 1993 female's organization Anannya has been awarding ten distinguished women contributors working in different fields.
About her name in the recipients' list Sumi said that all her individual achievements are actually achievements of the whole band "Chirkutt". Her name has come up because she is a women and the award is for women only, nonetheless she has dedicated the award to other members of the band. Any award is worth cherishing but the response she gets from people according to her is the greatest achievement.
The award will be formally conferred on April 7 at 4.30pm at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium in Bangla Academy. Sharmila Bandyopadhyay will conduct choreography with the troupe Nrittya Nandan during the award giving ceremony while Anima Mukti Gomes will render songs.
