Altaf Mahmud Award to go to Hasan Imam, Ferdousi Mazumder

This year's Altaf Mahmud Award will go to Syed Hasan Imam and Ferdousi Mazumder. The award giving ceremony will be held at 6pm on August 30 marking the death anniversary of Altaf Mahmud. Altaf Mahmud was detained on this day in 1971 by occupying Pakistani Army personnel from his residence opposite to Rajarbagh Police Line in Dhaka. Every year on this day since 2005 Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation hands over awards on his name to distinguished cultural personalities to pay respect to him.
The awards this year will be handed over at the Music and Dance Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital. Shaon Mahmud, daughter of Altaf Mahmud has confirmed this. The awardees will get prize money, crest, honourary cloaks.
Previous recipients of the award include musicians Alam Khan, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, Alauddin Ali; artists Qayyum Chowdhury and Mustafa Monwar; writers Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury, Hasan Azizul Huq; researcher Professor Emeritus Rafiqul Islam; singers Ajit Rai, Sabina Yasmin; film actor Nayak Raj Razzak; theatre activists Aly Zaker, Mofidul Haque and more.
