A historic film on the independence of Bangladesh has moved into production works. The film would bring back Anju Ghosh, actress from the hit film Beder Meye Josna of the late 80s. The film would also see actor couple Omar Sani and Moushumi sharing the screen together after a long time. Director Sayedur Rahman Sayeed is another returnee as he is set to make a comeback to the film industry after seventeen years. Or it maybe said that he has already made his comeback as two scenes of the film were shot on the very day of 'Maharat.' On November 25 the 'maharat' or the announcing of production works was held at Madhur Canteen of University of Dhaka. Centering around events at Madhur Canteen the film has also been named "Madhur Canteen."
The film would essay the tragic end of Madhu Da the late owner of the historic canteen of University of Dhaka. Soon after the start of Operation Searchlight in the dead of March 25, 1971 Madhu Da was killed during the raid of Pakistani Army on the University of Dhaka campus.
It has been revealed that Sayeedur Rahman Saeed was a student at the university during its tumultuous years in the 60s and was intimate with Madhusudan Dey, like many others. Thus the film is personally connected to the director.
In the film Omar Sani will play the role of Madhu Da. Moushumi will act as a Dhaka correspondent of a Kolkata-based newspaper. Mohsin Palash and Sohana Saba will also play key roles in the film. Mohsin Palash will act as a Freedom Fighter, while Saba will be seen as a university student who gets molested by the Pakistani Army. The cast is also said to have a senior actor like Syed Hasan Imam. Anju Ghosh will play the role of Madhusudan Dey's wife, who was immediately killed by the firing as Pakistani forces stormed their house in the early hours of March 26, 1971. Madhusudan Dey however survived with injuries but was soon taken to the university playground where he was executed with some university students. It might be added that Madhusudan started business in the university campus with his father when the university was established in 1921. Later he founded the iconic canteen.
The film would hold events of the university from 1966 to 1971. This period saw many uprisings against the Pakistani regime with Madhur Canteen in the center.
