Five people including a woman have been murdered in separate incidents in five districts- Sylhet, Coxs Bazar, Barishal, Narsingdi and Bagerhat, in two days.
SYLHET: A Bangladeshi youth shot to death by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Bichanakandi border of Gowainghat Upazila in the district on Friday night.
The incident took place at around 9:30 pm within 400 yards of 1263 main pillar along the border area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Kawser Ahmed, 26, son of Ruson Mia, a resident of South Bogaiya Village under Rustampur Union in the upazila.
Bichanakandi Border Outpost Commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Subeder Altaf Hossain confirmed the matter, adding that Kawser was involved in smuggling of sugar from India. On Friday night, when he tried to sneak across the border to smuggle sugar, BSF fired bullets on him. He died on the spot.
Being informed, the family members of the deceased took the body from the scene, said the official.
Besides, a team of police from Gowainghat Police Station (PS) visited the scene and legal action would be taken in this regard, the commander added.
UKHIYA, COXS BAZAR: A Rohingya youth was shot to death by miscreants in Ukhiya Upazila of the district on Friday evening. The incident took place in Jamtoli Rohingya Camp No. 15 in the upazila at around 6:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Dil Mohammad, 28, son of Abul Hashim, a resident of the aforesaid camp.
Quoting the locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhiya PS Shamim Hossain said a group of 10 to 12 masked miscreants attacked on Dil Mohammad on a road of Block-E in the camp and fired bullets on him, leaving him critically wounded.
He was then rescued and taken to MSF Hospital in the camp, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the hospital and sent it to Coxs Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said the OC.
However, legal action would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
BARISHAL: An elderly man was killed in a clash between two neighbours over land dispute in the city on Thursday night.
The incident took place at around 8 pm in Gabtola area under Ward No. 23 in the city.
The deceased was identified as Sejan Ali, 75, a resident of the aforesaid area.
According to the deceaseds family members, there had been a longstanding dispute between two neighbours Shawon Sarder and Sajal Sarder over the ownership of a piece of a land. As sequel to it, they locked into a fight at around 8 pm on Thursday. At that time, when Sejan went there to depress them, one of them kicked him, leaving him critically injured.
He was then rescued and taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Barishal Kotwali Model PS OC Arisul Haque said being informed, police detained Shawon and Sajal for primary questioning and legal action would be taken after investigation.
NARSINGDI: Police arrested a man reportedly for strangling his pregnant wife to death in Madhabdi Upazila of the district on Friday night.
The arrested man is Abul Kalam, 23, a resident of North Char Bhasania Village under the upazila.
Earlier on Thursday, police recovered the body of Kalams wife Arifa, 20, who was five months pregnant, from her house. Since then, Abul Kalam went into hiding.
The deceaseds brother Nur Mohammad filed a case with Madhabdi PS accusing Abul Kalam.
According to the case statement, there had been family disputes between Kalam and the deceased. As sequel to it, he strangled Arifa to death on Thursday and fled away.
Following the case, a team of police conducted a drive in the upazila on Friday night and arrested him, said Madhabdi PS OC Mohammad Kamruzzaman.
The arrested person was produced before a court first where he confessed to his crime and then, he was sent to the jail following the court order, the OC added.
MORRELGANJ, BAGERHAT: A farmer was beaten to death over trivial matter in Morrelganj Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.
The incident took place in Guliakhali Village under No. 13 Nishanbaria Union of the upazila at around 10 am.
The deceased was identified as Shafiz Uddin Chaprashi, 72, son of late Tachher Uddin, a resident of the same area.
The deceaseds son Bashir Uddin Chaprashi said his father went to graze his cattle in a field in the area in the morning. At that time, an altercation took place in between Shafiz Uddin Chaprashi and one Mosharraf Talukder over grazing the cattle. At one stage of the altercation, Mosharraf started beating Shafiz Uddin, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body. However, the law enforcers arrested the accused Mosharraf Talukder in connection with the murder.
Morrelganj PS OC Mohammad Shamsuddin confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
