The Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (OCAG) of Bangladesh recently hosted a Presentation Session, showcasing the valuable learning experiences gained by 14 officials from the OCAG at a Leadership Course conducted in the Netherlands by the Maastricht School of Management(MSM) spanning from the 25th of September to the 6th of October 2023.
This initiative aimed to foster effective leadership skills among officials, drawing from the Netherlands experience in developing change champions to navigate an ever-evolving context, says a press release.
The dissemination event was attended by over 100 officials of the OCAG and was held at the Audit Bhaban, Dhaka in collaboration with the European Unions Technical Assistance to Support the Implementation of the PFM Reform Strategy Plan in Bangladesh, implemented by DT Global, marked a significant milestone in OCAGs ongoing efforts to modernize its operations.
The Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh, Md. Nurul Islam, graced the event with his esteemed presence as the Chief Guest.
Marga Peeters, Programme Manager, Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, attended the event as the Special Guest. Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (Senior), chaired the session, underscoring the importance of the event.
A H M Shamsur Rahman, Director General of Local Government and Rural Development Audit Directorate, presented an overview of the overall learning experiences undertaken during the course. One of the key aspects of the course was the exploration of the Public Sector Value Model, introducing a paradigm shift towards auditing in the interest of the public. This approach underscores the importance of aligning leadership practices with the broader public interest. Rahman underscored the importance of aligning leadership skills with individual strengths and emphasized the implementation of action items within their roles. Furthermore, he stressed the significance of personal brand development in leadership, encouraging participants to cultivate their unique strengths and leadership styles.
As OCAG in collaboration with the European Union, continues its commitment to modernization, and the MSM Initiative stands as a pivotal stride towards building a cadre of leaders capable of steering the organization through challenges and ensuring its sustained relevance. The investment in leadership skills is expected to have a cascading effect, fostering positive transformation within OCAG and contributing to adopting a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Moreover, it is poised to make significant contributions to the broader landscape of public sector auditing in Bangladesh. The event and the course in the Netherlands seek to enhance the value of the Technical Assistance and partnerships between the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, the OCAG and Bangladesh, as a whole. The leadership journey embarked upon by OCAG promises to reshape the future of audit practices, ultimately serving the best interests of the public.
