Gas supply across the country is expected to face low pressure for 72 hours, from January 1 to January 4, due to the suspension of operations at one of the floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) for repair and maintenance.
Petrobangla, the state-owned oil, gas, and mineral corporation, announced the disruption in a statement, apologizing for the temporary inconvenience to consumers during this period.
Bangladesh currently operates two FSRUs, which together supply approximately 1,000-1,100 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD), a significant portion of the country's total daily gas production of 2,900 MMCFD. One FSRU contributes 500 MMCFD, while the other provides 600 MMCFD.
With one FSRU temporarily out of service, the gas supply pressure is anticipated to decrease nationwide, impacting residential, commercial, and industrial consumers. Petrobangla has urged customers to be patient as it undertakes the essential maintenance work to ensure reliable gas delivery in the future.
