Dhaka University's proctor office has sent letters to the provosts of the residential halls, deans of the faculties and directors of the institutes requesting not to accord any permission to hold programmes related to discussions on holy Ramadan.
The restriction was imposed in a letter signed by DU proctor Dr Md Maksudur Rahman on Wednesday (March 20).
Several students of the Department of Law of the DU have recently organised a discussion styled "Product Ramadan" on the campus. Then the DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) launched attack on a programme leaving five students critically injured.
According to the letter, in sequel of the incident, some political organisations and politicians have indulged in directing the incident to a different direction with a view to destabilise the DU campus. The university authorities have informed the law enforcing agency concerned about it. At the same time, the authorities requested not to allow any such activities to maintain congenial atmosphere of learning and avoid any untoward incident in future.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe body has been formed to investigate the attack on the students of the Faculty of Law. Led by assistant proctor and dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Professor Dr Abdul Muhit, other members of the committee are associate professor Dr ML Polash of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and associate professor Dr Md Mostafizur Rahman of the Department of Biology.
The committee has been directed to complete its work, without imposing any time-limit to submit report.
