Abahani earn exciting win as Stewart slams hat-trick in BPL

Saint Vincent forward Cornelius Stewart slammed a brilliant hat-trick as Abahani Limited, Dhaka came from behind, earned an exciting 3-2 goals victory over Chittagong Abahani Limited in their penultimate round match of the ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football on Saturday.

In the days match, Cornelius Stewart scored hat-trick with three goals for Dhaka Abahani while forward Mannaf Rabby and defender Riaj Uddin Sagor scored one goal each for Chittagong Abahani Limited held at Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

Rabby put Chittagong Abahani ahead in the 20th minute while after the breather Sagor doubled the lead scoring the second goal in the 67th minute of the match.

But, Abahani staged a brilliant fight back in remaining proceeding as Stewart pulled one back scoring the first goal for Dhaka Abahani in the 80th minute from a spot kick and leveled the margin scoring the second goal in the 90th minute. He ensured Abahanis victory after completing his hat-trick goal in the 90+3rd minute of the match.

With the days win, the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited, who stand third position in the league table, collected 32 points (equal with Mohammedan who stands second position also with 32 points) from 17 matches while the port city team Chittagong Abahani Limited, who stand seventh position in the league table, remained at their previous collection of 19 points playing the same number of outings.     —BSS
