Bangladesh youngster Jishan Alam is keen to stamp his authority in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in a bid to prove that his performance in the recently concluded NCL T20 tournament was not fluke.

Jishan hogged the limelight by hitting 22 sixes in NCL T20 in which he eventually made 281 runs at a staggering strike rate of 158.76. He also hit a 53 ball-century to bring him into the fore as a future prospect of the country's cricket.

Jishan, the son of former national player Jahangir Alam, will play the BPL for the first time after being roped in by new franchise Durbar Rajshahi.

"I will try to do something good. The NCL went very well for me. I will try to emulate that feat in the BPL," Jishan said.
The pressure will be on Jishan in fact to carry his form into the BPL, but the youngster played down the pressure, saying that he is keen to come up with his natural game.

"I don't want to take pressure. Because this is my game, I have to play it. I will try to do my best. The main thing is to perform, that's it."

Jishan's father Jahangir represented the national team. However, he was not able to make his mark. Following his father's path, Jishan also dreams to make it to the national team.

"Of course, this is an inspiration for me. Since both my father and uncle have played for the national team, I will also try to follow their footstep. If it is written in my destiny, I will play for the national team."

Jishan's ability to hit big sixes effortlessly was a treat to watch, something which brought him into the limelight instantly.

"Nothing is like that. I have been playing natural cricket since childhood. When I was a child, my father used to make me bat at center wicket. That is why I hit sixes naturally, that is what everyone calls big sixes."

Dubar Rajshahi will open the BPL campaign by taking on defending champions Fortune Barishal today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.    —BSS
