We need to invest in cricket, not concerts or anything else: Tamim

Newly appointed BCB president Faruque Ahmed earlier announced that the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) this year will returns with promises of greater excitement. But there was nothing special noticed so far except a vibrant concert and the introduction of a mascot for the first time.

One of the country's most prominent cricketers Tamim Iqbal, who captains Fortune Barishal, has voiced his concerns. Speaking to the media, Tamim emphasized the importance of improving the quality of the tournament on the field rather than focusing solely on off-field entertainment.

"To be honest, I don't see anything different except the concert," Tamim remarked during the pre-match press conference at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur on Sunday. "If we want to elevate the BPL, we must invest in cricket. This is the most important thing. The focus should be on improving the tournament, not just organizing concerts or other peripheral events."

"If we invest in cricket and the tournament itself, only then can we truly call this a new BPL. Concerts have happened before." He added.

The veteran cricketer also urged to be patient before judging the new season's success and said, "It is still a bit early to comment because I don't know what tomorrow holds for us. It wouldn't be fair either. But if anyone asks me for advice, I would simply say -if you want to truly reform the BPL, invest in the tournament and in cricket."

As the 11th edition of the BPL kicks off, fans and stakeholders alike will be watching closely to see if the board takes meaningful steps to address these concerns. Only time will tell if the promises of a more exciting BPL translate into tangible improvements on the field.
