Students in
Mymensingh city blocked the Jamalpur-bound Agnibina Express train as a part of their ongoing
anti-quota movement, causing significant inconvenience to the rail passengers.
The blockade took place around 3:45pm on Sunday at the Sankipara rail crossing in the city under the banner of "Anti-discrimination student movement."
Students from various educational institutions blocked the the Agnibina Express train for 50 minutes from 3:40pm to 4:30pm at the rail crossing.
The protesters said that the train blockade was a part of the nationwide 'Bangla Blockade' program demanding the abolition of the quota system.
They warned that if the quota system is not abolished immediately, students will be forced to take more stringent measures on the streets.
Mymensingh Railway Station Superintendent Md. Nazmul Haque confirmed the incident, adding that the Jamalpur-bound Agnibina Express was briefly stopped due to the protest.
However, train services on the Mymensingh-Jamalpur route have now resumed normal operations, he said.
Earlier, students had blocked trains twice in the Bangladesh Agricultural University area, demanding the abolition of the quota system.
