
Senior Upazila Fisheries Office, Teknaf and WorldFish implemented USAID's ECOFISH II Activity collaborated to celebrate the "National Fisheries Week-2024" at Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
The week-long event commenced with the theme "Vorbo Mache Moder Desh, Gorbo Smart Bangladesh"on Tuesday, July 30, and will continue until 05 August, says a press release.
A vibrant and informative day-long program took place at the Teknaf Upazila Parishad's Auditorium premises, attracting enthusiastic participation from various government departments and key stakeholders in the fisheries sector. Attendees included fishermen, boat owners, fish traders, fish processors, aquaculture and shrimp farmers, Fisheries Conservation Groups (FCG), Landing Center-based Fisheries Co-management (LFCC) committee representatives, of ECOFISH II project, and other associated with coastal fisheries.
The event was facilitated by Md Delwar Hossain, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer. Zafar Ahmed,Upazila Chairman of Teknaf, graced the event as guest of honor while Md. Adnan Chowdhury, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO),Teknaf Upazila presided over the meeting.
Shaheed Al Mamun Nasrullah, Research Associate, and Md. Sohel Rana, Research Assistant, from WorldFish's ECOFISH II Activity at Teknaf, actively took part in the event.
The discussion revolved around celebrating the successes achieved in the fisheries sector of Bangladesh and addressing pertinent issues.
The participants united in their aspirations for increased safe fish production, pre and post harvest loss management, to boost up the country's economic growth towards Smart Bangladesh by 2041.
