The government has approved the reconstitution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), appointing Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar as its chairman.
Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul announced the appointment at a press briefing at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday evening.
Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District and Sessions Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury have been appointed as members of the tribunal, he said.
The law adviser stated that judicial proceedings are set to begin very soon.
He informed that Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District and Sessions Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury have been appointed as members of the tribunal.
Besides, he confirmed that the trial the offenders, who were involved in mass killing during the July-August uprising, will take priority at the ICT.
Meanwhile, Golam Martuza has recently been appointed as an additional judge of the High Court.
On October 8, the government appointed 23 additional judges under Article 98 of the constitution, raising the number of High Court judges to 101.
