Old Dhaka boys flying high this season

Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society, an Old Dhaka football team, is doing much better in the current football season compared to its performances in the previous seasons. 

While they used to escape relegation somehow in the past seasons, the Old Dhaka boys are leading the point table with tremendous performances and results this time. 

Rahmatganj MFS is currently in second place on the point table of the Bangladesh Premier League with 12 points from five matches. 

On Saturday in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25, Rahmatganj MFS registered a 6-1 win over Fakirerpool Young Men's Club at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur. For the winners, Ghanaian striker Samuel Boateng made a brace scoring in the 25th and 72nd minutes while Rajon Howladar also scored two, one in the 54th and the other in the injury time of the second half. Taj Uddin netted one in the 62nd and Nabib Newaz Jiban scored in the 66th minute of the match. Uzbekistan striker Akobir Turaev reduced the margin for Fakirerpool Young Men's Club scoring one in the 28th minute. 

Another good news for the local football fans is that both Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani are returning to their traditional forms. While Mohammedan is leading the table from the top, its arch-rival Abahani is in third place and looking forward to a scope to move up. 

In the other match on Saturday, Abahani Ltd Dhaka celebrated a 2-0 win over Bangladesh Police FC. Arman Faysal Akash and Sahariar Emon scored one each for the winner.
