Hales stars as Rangpur Riders chase down 206 with ease

Rangpur Riders cruised to an 8-wicket victory against Sylhet Strikers after a brilliant century from Alex Hales in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday. 

The Riders, chasing a challenging total of 206, found their hero in the former England opener, who played a sensational knock to lead his team to their fourth consecutive win.

The match saw a strong partnership between Hales and Saif Hassan, who also played a pivotal role with an explosive innings of 80 runs. The pair shared a record-breaking stand of 186 runs for the second wicket, turning the game in Rangpur's favor after an early setback. 

Rangpur's chase got off to a rocky start as Azizul Hakim Tamim was dismissed for a duck in the first over by Tanzim Hasan Sakib. However, Saif and Hales turned the tide with a dominating partnership. Saif's 80 came off just 49 balls, which included 7 sixes and 3 fours, but he was dismissed just 18 runs short of the target, attempting another big hit.

Hales, however, remained calm and composed, finishing unbeaten on 113 from 56 balls. His innings included 10 fours and 7 sixes, helping him maintain an impressive strike rate of 201.78. This was Hales' second century in the BPL, his first coming in 2019 for Rangpur Riders.

Earlier, Sylhet Strikers had posted a challenging total of 205 for 4 after being asked to bat first. Openers George Munsey and Rony Talukdar provided a solid foundation with a partnership of 47 runs. Rony played a key role, scoring 54 off 36 balls, while Zakir Hasan contributed with 50 runs.

Despite some late fireworks from Aaron Jones and Jakir Ali Anik, Sylhet�s total fell short, with Jones remaining not out on 38 from 19 balls and Anik adding 20 off just 5 balls.

For Rangpur, Mohammad Saifuddin was the most successful bowler, taking 2 wickets for 31 runs. Mehedi Hasan and Akif Javed also chipped in with a wicket each, but they could not stem the tide of runs once Hales and Saif had taken control.

With this resounding win, Rangpur Riders have firmly established themselves as one of the most dominant teams in the ongoing BPL, with Hales' explosive century leading the way.
