Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mohammad Nahid Islam said that the government is set to establish a directorate dedicated to the July Uprising under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs by next month.

He announced the decision during a press briefing at Rail Bhaban in the capital on Monday.
Adviser Nahid outlined the responsibilities of the upcoming directorate, which will include assisting the families of martyrs, rehabilitating individuals injured during the uprising, and managing all related affairs. He emphasized the government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices made and addressing the needs of those affected.

The government plans to allocate a total of Tk 637.80 crore in financial assistance over two phases. Beginning next week, Tk 232.60 crore will be distributed to support the families of martyrs and those injured in the uprising. Each martyr’s family will receive Tk 10 lakh in savings bonds as part of this allocation.

An additional Tk 405.20 crore will be made available in July 2025 for the fiscal year 2025-2026. From this fund, each martyr’s family will be granted Tk 20 lakh. Injured individuals will also receive financial aid based on the severity of their injuries, with a monthly allowance for those severely affected starting in July 2025.

The new directorate is expected to play a key role in preserving the legacy of the July Uprising while providing critical support to its victims and their families. The initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to safeguarding historical movements and ensuring the well-being of those connected to these events.
