An associate professor of Rajshahi University (RU) has passed away after being injured in a road accident on Tuesday.
Dr. Purnajit Mahaldar, an Associate Professor in the Bengali Department of RU, breathed his last around 2:35 AM on Tuesday while undergoing treatment in ICU of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Professor Akhtar Hossain Majumdar, the Administrator of the Public Relations Office at the university confirmed the death news.
In a press release issued by the university, it was stated that Dr. Mahaldar had been critically injured in a road accident near the Kazla area adjacent to the university on Monday afternoon. He fell from his motorcycle and sustained severe injuries. Emergency responders took him to RMCH, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Despite medical efforts, he passed away late at night.
Dr. Mahaldar's untimely death has cast a pall of grief over the university community, where he was highly regarded for his contributions to academia and the Bengali Department.
