Alleged gangster 'Blade Babu' murdered in Mirpur

An alleged local gangster was brutally hacked to death in Dhaka's Mirpur Section-12 on Monday afternoon. 

The deceased, Manzurul Islam Babu, also known as "Blade Babu," was attacked by a rival gang over territorial supremacy at Teker Bari area near Pallabi Police Station, said police.

According to Pallabi Police Station Inspector (investigation) Abul Kaium, the attack was carried out by members of a group led by Musa Sikder, also known as Sumon Sikder. Babu reportedly had a confrontation earlier in the day with Rajan, a member of Sikder's gang, which escalated into the fatal assault.

At around 3:45 PM, Rajan and several accomplices attacked Babu with sharp weapons, stabbing him multiple times. The assailants fled the scene, leaving Babu severely injured. He was quickly rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where he was declared dead, said police sources.

The police have launched an operation to apprehend the accused. Investigations are ongoing into the motive behind the attack which is believed to be linked to ongoing tensions and rivalry between local gangs in the area, added the inspector Abul Kaium.
