'Amar Ekushey Book Fair' set to kick off

Preparations for the much-anticipated Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2025 are nearing completion, with the event set to begin tomorrow at Suhrawardy Udyan and the Bangla Academy premises.

Publishers and organizers are putting the finishing touches on stalls and pavilions to ensure everything is ready for the opening day.  

During a recent visit to the venue, workers, including masons, carpenters, painters, and electricians, were seen diligently preparing the stalls and pavilions. Publishers and organization representatives were also present, overseeing the decoration and setup work around the clock. 

This year, a total of 708 publishers are participating in the fair, with 99 stalls located on the Bangla Academy premises and 609 stalls at Suhrawardy Udyan. Additionally, 37 pavilions will be set up�one at Bangla Academy and 36 at Suhrawardy Udyan. The popular Little Magazine Corner, featuring around 130 stalls, will be situated under the trees near the open stage at Suhrawardy Udyan.  

Many publishers expressed optimism about completing their preparations on time. Johirul Abedin Jewel, publisher of Ittyadi Prokashoni, confirmed that his pavilion is fully prepared. However, some stalls are still under construction, with workers busy setting up bookshelves and finalizing structures.  

Pick-up trucks and vans were seen delivering books to the stalls, adding to the bustling atmosphere at the venue. Meanwhile, to facilitate smooth access for visitors, the Dhaka University authorities have lifted restrictions on vehicular movement inside the campus from February 1 to February 28. Visitors will also be allowed to park their vehicles at the ground adjacent to Hazi Mohammad Muhsin Hall during the month-long fair. 

The Amar Ekushey Book Fair, a cornerstone of Bangladesh�s cultural calendar, promises to be a vibrant celebration of literature, drawing book lovers from across the country.
