Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged to a historic high, with the cost of the highest quality 22-carat gold reaching Tk 144,890 per bhari (11.664 grams).
This marks an increase of Tk 2,099, as announced by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS). The new prices will take effect from Sunday.
The decision to raise gold prices was made during a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Saturday, February 1. The committee cited the rising prices of pure gold in the local market as the reason for the adjustment. This is the fourth consecutive price hike in recent weeks, following increases on January 16, 23, and 30.
The latest price adjustment sets a new record for gold in Bangladesh. Previously, the highest price for 22-carat gold was Tk 143,526 per bhari, which was in effect from October 31 to November 4 last year. Alongside the increase in 22-carat gold, prices for other variants have also been raised.
The current rate of golds are-- 21-carat gold has been increased by Tk 1,994 to Tk 138,300 per bhari, 18-carat gold has risen by Tk 1,714 to Tk 118,541 per bhari, traditional method gold has seen an increase of Tk 1,458, now priced at Tk 97,476 per bhari.
In contrast, the price of silver remains unchanged. The current rates for silver are-- 22-carat silver at Tk 2,578 per bhari, 21-carat silver at Tk 2,449 per bhari, 18-carat silver at Tk 2,111 per bhari, and traditional method silver at Tk 1,586 per bhari.
The consistent rise in gold prices reflects global market trends and increased demand for the precious metal as a safe-haven asset.
BAJUS continues to monitor market conditions closely and adjust prices accordingly to align with international standards and local demand. Consumers and traders are advised to stay updated on further changes as the market evolves.
