The authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have permanently expelled eight students from the university and suspended 52 others for different terms.
The decision was made at a meeting held at the university on Tuesday.
BUET Director of Student Welfare Department (DSW) Professor Dr AKM Masud confirmed the matter.
According to the university administration, the students were punished for violating several laws of the university ordinance.
Among them, the eight expelled students were penalized over violating campus discipline, 12 students were suspended for different periods while 6 others for two terms, and warned for the last time.
The university authorities also cancelled the seat allocations of 7 students from their respective dormitories and warned 27 others following the decision.
It was learnt that many of the students are the activists of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) BUET unit. Hundreds of students of the university staged demonstration on the campus for their punishment.
