Operation Devil Hunt: 343 arrested on second day

The joint forces arrested 343 individuals across the country on the second day of 'Operation Devil Hunt,' bringing the total number of detainees to 1,651 as of Monday afternoon, according to sources at the police headquarters.  

Of those arrested, 1,178 were taken into custody in connection with various cases. Authorities also seized a cache of weapons during the second day's operations, including a pistol, two magazines, 11 rounds of bullets, six cartridges, three knives, three swords, an axe, ten cocktails, one stick, four iron rods, and four other sharp weapons.  
The nationwide crackdown, launched on Saturday night, saw 1,308 arrests on its first day. Officials claim the operation aims to curb unrest and enhance public safety, though its timing and execution suggest a targeted focus on supporters and activists of the Awami League, including its banned student wing, the Chhatra League.  

The security initiative follows violent clashes in Gazipur, a traditional Awami League stronghold, on Friday night. Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that the operation will continue until what he referred to as "the devils" are eradicated.
