Ireland keen to support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition: envoy

During a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at his Tejgaon office, Kelly conveyed Ireland’s willingness to send a team to assist Bangladesh in its democratic transition.  

"You can count on our full support," the envoy assured.  

Beyond political cooperation, Ireland is also eager to strengthen trade ties with Bangladesh. Kelly noted that several major Irish brands are looking to increase imports from Bangladesh, signaling potential economic growth between the two nations.  

The discussion, which lasted for 30 minutes, covered regional political developments, the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland—which played a crucial role in establishing peace after years of conflict—and the ongoing Rohingya crisis.  

Kelly reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to supporting the over one million Rohingya refugees currently residing in Bangladesh, pledging continued humanitarian assistance.
