CA to address political parties on fostering national consensus on Saturday

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will preside over the first official meeting with political parties on Saturday (February 15), as part of the interim government's initiative to foster national consensus ahead of the upcoming election.

The meeting, set to take place at the Foreign Service Academy from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, will be the first in a series of discussions aimed at addressing political and structural reforms. Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir confirmed on Friday that Professor Yunus will deliver a keynote address, outlining the government’s vision for consensus-building.

The initiative follows the formation of the National Consensus Commission, a seven-member body tasked with reviewing and implementing recommendations from six key reform commissions.

The members of the new commission are Prof Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission; Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of Public Administration Reform Commission; Safar Raj Hossain, head of Police Reform Commission; Badiul Alam Majumder, head of Election Reform Commission; Justice Emdadul Haque, head of Judiciary Reform Commission; and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, head of Anti-Corruption Reform Commission.

Operating for six months from February 15, the commission will oversee policy discussions and propose necessary reforms.

Saturday’s meeting is expected to set the groundwork for future dialogue with political parties, focusing on electoral integrity, governance improvements, and national unity.
