RAB may be reformed with new name, uniform: Home Adviser

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that if necessary, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) may be restructured with a new name and uniform.  

"If required, RAB will be reformed. A discussion was held on this matter, and we presented a proposal—including ideas regarding a new name and uniform. This needs to be considered, and a decision will be made in the next meeting," he said.  

The Home Adviser made these remarks while responding to a question after a law and order meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat. He emphasized that any decision on this matter would be taken after further discussions with relevant stakeholders.  

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recently released a fact-finding report on violence during the July-August Uprising, recommending a restructuring of Bangladesh's security and policing systems.  

The report suggested: "Disband the Rapid Action Battalion and return personnel not involved in serious violations to their home units."  

The government is currently reviewing the recommendations before making a final decision.
