Army to uphold law and order until elected govt takes charge: Army Chief

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman stated on Monday that the Bangladesh Army will continue to maintain law and order until an elected government assumes power. 

Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony for a firing competition at Savar Cantonment, he emphasized the army's commitment to its professional responsibilities.  

“Initially, we thought our task would be completed quickly, allowing us to return to the cantonment. However, we have been working for an extended period now. We must remain patient and fulfill our duties with dedication,” General Waker-Uz-Zaman said.  

He stressed the importance of maintaining discipline while performing duties, stating, “We must avoid unruly behavior and use force only when absolutely necessary.” The army chief reiterated the Bangladesh Army’s commitment to upholding peace and order in the country.  

During the event, General Waker-Uz-Zaman participated in the firing competition, demonstrating his support for the troops. Major General Moin Khan, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 9th Infantry Division in Savar, and other senior army officials were also present.  

In the competition, the 33rd Infantry Division secured first place, while the 7th Brigade Division came in as the runner-up. The event highlighted the army’s focus on training and preparedness as it continues to play a vital role in maintaining stability across the nation.
