Govt revokes police medals of 103 officials over 2018 election controversy

Among the officers affected are former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md. Asaduzzaman Mia, and former DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruk, who was then serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police.  

The Public Security Division of the Home Ministry issued a notification on Tuesday, signed by Senior Secretary Tausif Ahmed, announcing the decision. The officers have also been instructed to return the monetary benefits they received in connection with the medals awarded in 2018.  

This move underscores the government's efforts to address accountability and integrity concerns related to the 2018 elections, which were widely criticized for irregularities and lack of fairness.
