Bangladesh seeks 'special relationship' with Germany

His remarks came during a meeting with Zarah Bruhn, a Commissioner of the German government, at the State Guest House Jamuna.  

Highlighting Germany’s global leadership in various industries, Prof. Yunus expressed appreciation for the country’s economic strength and innovation.  

"We already share close ties with Germany, but we seek to take this further and develop a special relationship," he stated.  

Zarah Bruhn, who is visiting Bangladesh to explore social businesses and microcredit initiatives, praised Prof. Yunus for his leadership.  

"I am a great admirer of your work, and I believe Bangladesh will see significant progress under your guidance," she said, adding that she was eager to introduce social businesses in Germany.  

Prof. Yunus also reaffirmed the interim government's commitment to holding general elections by the end of the year and sought Germany’s support in implementing key reforms.  

"We need your cooperation to build a New Bangladesh. Our goal is to ensure a successful and credible election," he said.  

The discussion also covered Prof. Yunus' "Three Zero" movement, strategies for poverty reduction, social business models, and the future of the welfare state.  

The meeting was also attended by Lamiya Morshed, senior secretary and head of SDG affairs in the Bangladesh government.
