Strategic partnerships essential for effective climate action: Rizwana

Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in ensuring climate investments yield real benefits for local communities and ecosystems.

 
Reaffirming the government's commitment to sustainable environmental management, she highlighted the critical role of international collaboration in addressing climate challenges.  

Rizwana made these remarks during a meeting at Pani Bhaban with a delegation led by former Norwegian Minister of Environment and Climate Change Erik Solheim and ProClime CEO Kavin Kumar Kandasamy.  

Discussions focused on strengthening climate cooperation, leveraging carbon market opportunities, and advancing ecosystem restoration in Bangladesh. Key topics included reforestation, biodiversity conservation, and the management of invasive species.  

The delegation expressed interest in supporting Bangladesh’s afforestation, agroforestry, and conservation initiatives, proposing sustainable forest management models and eco-restoration programs to enhance environmental resilience.  

They also underscored the need for structured engagement with international partners to attract investments in carbon credit projects and renewable energy solutions. Additionally, they offered technical assistance to strengthen Bangladesh’s carbon registry system and implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.  

Both sides agreed on the urgency of accelerating climate action through public-private collaboration, capacity building, and innovative financing. Rizwana assured that discussions with relevant government departments would be facilitated to explore further cooperation opportunities.
