A case has been filed against Rakhal Raha alias Sajjadur Rahman, a member of National Curriculum and Textbook Board's (NCTB) textbook revision and modification committee, under Cyber security Act allegedly for hurting religious sentiments.
A man, Sajjad Hossain, submitted a petition to the Cyber Tribunal in Dhaka on Monday (March 3), seeking legal action against the accused. The tribunal, presided over by Judge Nure Alam, recorded the complainant's statement.
The Tribunal has also ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter.
According to the case statement, on February 17, Raha reportedly made a Facebook post defaming Islam, which was later widely reported in various media outlets.
The plaintiff Sajjad claimed that after being informed about the post, he tried to file a case with Motijheel Police Station on February 25. However, police advised him to approach the court instead. Later, he filed the case in the court on Monday.
In his petition, the plaintiff urges the court to issue an arrest warrant against the accused and summon witnesses to ensure justice in this regard.
The court has taken the allegations into account and has ordered the CID to investigate before further proceedings.
