2 foreigners beaten in Bashundhara over mugging suspicion

Two Nigerian nationals were attacked by a mob in Bashundhara Residential Area on Tuesday after locals suspected them of mugging a man who had just withdrawn Tk 2 lakh from a nearby bank.  

The incident occurred around 1:45 PM near Abu Sayeed Gate of Jamuna Future Park, according to officer-in-charge of Bhatara Police Station, Mazharul Islam.  

Witnesses claim that a local resident saw the foreigners taking money from the bank customer, raising suspicion that they had used the “Devil’s Breath” drug—a substance allegedly linked to thefts.  

When confronted, the two men reportedly attempted to flee in their car, but the local raised an alarm, attracting a crowd. The mob chased down the vehicle, vandalized it, and physically assaulted the suspects before handing them over to the police.  

The injured foreigners were taken to a nearby hospital, and police are now investigating the actual circumstances of the incident.  

A video of the attack has already surfaced on social media, adding to public attention on the case.  

“We are currently looking into what really happened,” said OC Mazharul Islam, urging people to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
