JCD accuses NCP of rehabilitating banned BCL leaders

The President of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Rakibul Islam Rakib has accused the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) of rehabilitating leaders and activists from the banned Chhatra League (BCL) within their student organizations.

He claimed that both the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) and Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad (DSC) are providing shelter to the banned Chhatra League members.

Rakib made these statements in a press conference held on Friday (March 7), at 3 PM, at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan.

He claimed that the NCP and its student wing are providing a platform for former Chhatra League members, including individuals involved in the July-August 2023 mass uprising and other violent activities. He stated, “We have seen identified terrorists from the banned Chhatra League and accused individuals from the July-August genocide in the shadow of Sarjis Alam. This is how the NCP and its student organization are rehabilitating banned Chhatra League members. We strongly condemn this.”

Rakib also addressed the recent conflict involving Sarjis Alam, a student leader, and students of North South University (NSU). He denied any involvement of Chhatra Dal in the incident and accused Sarjis Alam of politicizing the matter. “The conflict originated from internal disputes within the NCP and Democratic Students Council over issues between Dhaka University and private universities. Unfortunately, Sarjis Alam blamed Chhatra Dal in a Facebook post, which is completely baseless and fabricated,” Rakib said.

He further criticized Sarjis Alam for labeling NSU students as “terrorists, miscreants, and street urchins,” calling the remarks disrespectful and divisive. “Sarjis Alam’s comments have insulted students of North South University and other educational institutions across the country. We strongly condemn his arrogant and hateful statements. His remarks have undermined the unprecedented sacrifices made by private university students during the July-August mass uprising. We demand that he withdraw his statement immediately,” Rakib added.

The Chhatra Dal president reiterated his organization’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all students and called for unity among student communities to address ongoing challenges in the education sector.
