FIFA lifts financial restrictions on BFF

FIFA has lifted its restricted financing on the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) after six years, marking a significant milestone for the country's football governing body.

The restrictions were imposed in 2018 due to concerns over financial transparency and the misuse of FIFA funds outside designated sectors.

BFF President Tabith Awal confirmed the development, stating, "After six years, the BFF has come out of the restricted financing from FIFA, which just informed us of the development today."

Awal, who was elected BFF president in October last year, credited the swift resolution to proactive measures taken during his tenure. "We have been able to achieve this in four months, something that was not done in the past," he said.

Since assuming office, Awal met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino once and AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa twice. He also visited the headquarters of both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to expedite the visit of FIFA's audit team.

Under the restricted financing, FIFA allocated $1.25 million annually to the BFF in 12 instalments instead of the usual two or three. With the restrictions now lifted, the BFF can apply for special projects and manage its activities more effectively.

"This is a positive step forward for Bangladeshi football, and we can now focus on developing the sport and supporting our teams and players," Awal added.

The lifting of restrictions is expected to boost the BFF's efforts to revitalize football in Bangladesh and improve its standing in the international arena.
