BDR carnage probe commission summons Hasina, 14 others for testimony

The National Independent Investigation Commission probing the 2009 BDR carnage has summoned 15 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to testify as part of its inquiry.  

In a special notice issued today, the commission urged the witnesses to appear before it by March 31, citing time constraints in completing the testimony process.  

Among those summoned are former army chiefs General Moeen U Ahmed and General Aziz Ahmed, former Prime Minister’s Security Adviser Maj Gen (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former Dhaka South City Mayor Fazle Noor Taposh, and former members of parliament Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mirza Azam, and AFM Bahauddin Nasim.  

Others include Brig Gen (Retd) Muhammad Shamsul Alam, former commander of the 44th Rifle Battalion; Lt Gen (Retd) Molla Fazle Akbar, former DG of Forces Intelligence; Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, former DG of RAB; former police officer Abdul Kahar Akond; former IGP Nur Mohammad; and former Additional IGP Monirul Islam.  

The commission has asked the individuals to confirm their availability within seven days of the notice’s publication via phone, email, or letter. It also mentioned that online testimony through video conferencing can be arranged for those unable to appear in person.
