MIST student Yeamin’s death: ICT issues arrest warrant against 10

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants for ten individuals in connection with the death of Shaikh Ashhabul Yeamin, a fourth-year Computer Science and Engineering student at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST).  

Yeamin was killed during the student-led uprising in July last year. The tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md. Golam Murtaza Majumder, passed the order on Tuesday and set May 18 as the deadline for submitting a report on the accused.  

Members of law enforcement agencies and Awami League leaders are among those named in the case. The complaint, filed by Yeamin’s maternal uncle, Mohammad Abdullah Alamin Kadir, on September 23, 2024, originally listed 78 individuals.  

Advocate Shakil Ahmed, representing the family, stated that Yeamin was shot by police and Awami League activists during the protest on July 18. He was reportedly dragged near an Armored Police Carrier (APC) vehicle, shot again after being ordered to do so, and later dumped near a road divider.  

Yeamin was eventually taken to Enam Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The tribunal’s move marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the events surrounding last year’s student uprising.
