Vice principal murdered in Dhaka: Couple arrested from Faridpur

Police have arrested a couple from Faridpur in connection with the murder of an acting vice principal of a college in Dhaka's Shantinagar, was brutally hacked to death in a rented apartment in Dakshinkhan.

The victim, Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan, 50, was the acting vice principal of Habibullah Bahar College in the area.

The arrested individuals, identified as Nazer and Rupa, are a married couple in their early 20s. They were apprehended by Dakshinkhan Police on Tuesday (March 11) from Faridpur.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Uttara Division, Md. Muhidul Islam, confirmed the arrests, stating, "We have arrested the couple from Faridpur today. They got married seven months ago after meeting through a phone call. We are close to unraveling the mystery behind the murder. They have been detained as suspects, and we hope to uncover the truth through interrogation."

The officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, Md. Ziaur Rahman, provided further details, saying, "The couple had recently moved into the apartment where the vice principal was staying. It is alleged that they committed the murder early Monday morning and fled to Faridpur. We conducted a raid and arrested them."

The victim’s brother, Mujahidur Rahman Bhuiyan, filed a case at the police station, naming unknown individuals as accused. The police have registered the case as a murder investigation.

Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan had been living alone in a rented apartment on the fourth floor of a building in Puranpara area for the past few months. The police suspect that the young couple, who had recently moved into the apartment, may be involved in the murder.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Dakshinkhan Zone, Md. Nasim Al-Gulshan, added, "We believe the couple committed the murder early Monday morning and fled. Efforts are ongoing to bring them under the law. We hope to uncover the mystery soon through their interrogation."

Meanwhile, the post-mortem examination of the victim’s body was completed at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue, and the body was later handed over to the family.
