Apex Group chairman Manzur Elahi passes away

Syed Manzur Elahi, prominent businessman and chairman of Apex Group, passed away at a hospital in Singapore on Wednesday morning.

He passed away around 7:30AM (Bangladesh Time) while undergoing treatment there, his son Syed Nasim Manzur confirmed from Singapore over phone.

Manzur Elahi had been suffering from old age complications for a long time, Nasin said, adding that, both he and his sister were with his father at that time.

They are trying to take the body of his father to the country today.

The 79-year-old business personnel was the founding chairman and the chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB).

Elahi served in the caretaker government in 1996 holding the responsibility of various ministries, including Communications, Shipping, Civil Aviation and Tourism, Posts and Telecommunications and Housing and Public Works.

In 2001, he served as the adviser to the ministries of Agriculture, Shipping, Fisheries, and Livestock of the then caretaker government.
