The Virtues of Ramadan: Day 11

Virtues of Fasting  

Dear Muslim brothers and sisters, we would like to remind you of the immense virtues of this sacred month. We pray to Almighty Allah for the ability to utilize these precious moments of Ramadan in performing righteous deeds. May Allah accept them from us and forgive our sins.  

Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:  

"Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied from ten to seven hundred times. Allah says: ‘Except for fasting, it is exclusively for Me, and I will reward it accordingly. The fasting person gives up his desires and food for My sake.’ The fasting person experiences two moments of joy—one at the time of breaking his fast and the other when he meets his Lord. Indeed, the smell from the mouth of a fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the fragrance of musk.” (Bukhari: 1894, Muslim: 1151)  

The obligation of fasting was revealed in the second year of Hijrah in the month of Sha'ban while the Prophet (PBUH) was in Madinah. The Quran states:  

"O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you so that you may attain piety." (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 183)  

Each of the 30 fasts of Ramadan carries a unique virtue. The virtue of the 11th fast, as mentioned in Hadith, is that a fasting person who dies on this day will attain purity equivalent to that of a newborn baby—free from all sins.  

Dua for the 11th Fast  

اللّـهُمَّ حَبِّبْ إِلَيَّ فِيهِ الإِحْسَانَ، وَكَرِّهْ إِلَيَّ فِيهِ الْفُسُوقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ، وَحَرِّمْ عَلَيَّ فِيهِ السَّخَطَ وَالنِّيرَانَ بِعَوْنِكَ يَا غِيَاثَ الْمُسْتَغِيثِينَ  

Translation:  
"O Allah! On this day, make good deeds beloved to me and make disobedience and sin detestable to me. With Your mercy, protect me from Your anger and the torment of Hellfire. O the Helper of those who seek help!"  

More Virtues of Ramadan:

Hadith mentions that when the first night of Ramadan arrives, the devils and rebellious jinn are chained, the doors of Hell are closed, and none of them remain open, while the doors of Paradise are opened, and none of them remain closed. (Sahih Hadith)  

"For the sake of Ramadan, Paradise is adorned from the beginning of the year until the next. When the first day of Ramadan arrives, a breeze from under the Throne blows through the leaves of Paradise's trees, making the large-eyed Hoor (heavenly maidens) say: 'O Lord, appoint for us such husbands among Your servants who will be pleasing to our eyes, and for whom we will be pleasing in return.'"  

The 11th fast of Ramadan, like every other day in this blessed month, brings abundant rewards and blessings for those who seek closeness to Allah through patience, devotion, and good deeds.
