15 Bangladeshis held while entering Malaysia disguised as cricketers

Fifteen Bangladeshis were arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport while attempting to enter Malaysia using fake documents for a cricket tournament. 

According to the Malaysian news outlet Malay Mail, the incident took place on Monday (September 17).  

Malaysia’s Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPBS) reported that the group arrived at the airport dressed in cricket jerseys, attempting to pose as professional players. They presented a document claiming that they were in Malaysia to participate in a tournament organized by the Penang Cricket Association. 

However, upon verification, officials found the document to be fake. The document stated that the tournament was scheduled to take place from March 21 to March 23, but there were no matches planned for those dates.  

Further investigation revealed that the individuals were trying to secure a sponsor as their guarantor. However, the alleged sponsor denied any knowledge of the cricket tournament, stating that he was present at the airport solely as a company representative.  

Upon closer inspection, authorities confirmed that none of the detained individuals were actual cricketers. Instead, they were part of a syndicate attempting to gain entry into Malaysia under false pretenses. As a result, they were denied entry, and legal actions will be taken against them as per the country's laws.  

The Border Control agency has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to misuse athlete visas for unauthorized entry into Malaysia.
