A Dhaka court has acquitted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s brother, Shamim Iskander, and his wife, Kaniz Fatema, in a corruption case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge Md. Kabir Uddin Pramanik of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 delivered the verdict on Tuesday (March 25) dismissing charges of concealing wealth information.
The case dates back to 2007 when ACC issued a notice to Iskander, seeking details of his assets.
Following allegations of non-disclosure, the commission filed a case against him in 2008 with Ramna Police Station.
At Tuesday’s hearing, the prosecution opposed the defense's plea for acquittal. However, after reviewing arguments from both sides, the court ruled in favor of Iskander and Fatema.
Both defendants were present in court during the proceedings.
