Low-pressure forms in Bay, likely to intensify

A low-pressure system has developed over the central and adjoining areas of the southern Bay of Bengal, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) announced. 

According to the latest forecast, the system is expected to move northwestward until Tuesday (April 8) and then gradually shift northward. It may intensify into a well-marked low and potentially develop into a depression over time.

Dr. Md. Omar Faruq, meteorologist at BMD, shared this information in a weather bulletin issued on Monday (April 7).

The forecast indicates that in the next 24 hours, isolated places in Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by lightning and showers or thunderstorms. Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies.

A mild heatwave is currently affecting parts of Faridpur, Madaripur, Jashore, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, Bandarban, and Rangamati. The heatwave may subside in some areas. Daytime temperatures across the country are expected to fall slightly, while nighttime temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.

On Tuesday (April 8), similar weather conditions are expected to persist in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, with isolated occurrences of gusty winds, lightning, and rain or thundershowers. Elsewhere, the weather will likely remain dry with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures are expected to stay mostly stable.

From Wednesday (April 9) through Friday (April 11), scattered rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are forecast for isolated areas in all eight divisions: Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Daytime temperatures may decrease slightly on Wednesday, followed by a slight increase on Thursday and Friday. Nighttime temperatures may rise slightly on Wednesday and fall slightly on Thursday, with a further slight increase on Friday.

The BMD also noted that the likelihood of rainfall and thunderstorms will persist over the next five days.
