Consensus Commission resumes talks with parties on reforms on Saturday

The National Consensus Commission will resume its ongoing discussions with political parties on reform proposals from Saturday, engaging in separate meetings with Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) and Zaker Party.

According to a press release issued on Friday, the meeting with Jasad is scheduled for 10:00 am, followed by talks with Zaker Party at 3:00 pm. Both sessions will take place at LD Hall of Jatiya Sangsad Complex.

These meetings are part of the commission’s broader effort to gather feedback from political parties on a range of proposed reforms. Since launching the dialogue series on March 20, the commission has already met with six political parties: the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Labour Party, Rastra Sangshaskar Andolan, Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, and Nagorik Oikya.

The commission aims to complete the first round of consultations by the first week of May.

Established on February 15, 2025, and led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the National Consensus Commission has focused its efforts on key proposals drawn from five major reform bodies. These include the Constitution Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Electoral System Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Reform Commission.

To facilitate meaningful dialogue, the commission previously sent a consolidated spreadsheet of reform recommendations to 38 political parties, requesting their detailed feedback by March 13.

So far, 32 parties, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), have submitted their respective positions and suggestions to the commission.
